The inspiration for the design of my elk print pillows originated with my third great grandfather, Steven Nelson Leek. S.N. Leek was one of the first settlers and an avid photographer in Jackson Hole. His numerous elk photographs are nationally recognized and significantly helped to establish the National Elk Refuge where he was posthumously inducted into the Wyoming Outdoor Hall of Fame. He is widely known as “The Father of the Elk.”
These photographs are incredibly special to me and my family and serve as inspiration for my personal love of nature and the Western lifestyle. After mulling on ways to incorporate these photographs into my designs, I was lucky enough to partner with a sustainable printing company and together we have printed Leek’s timeless vintage photographs from the 1890s-1910s onto high quality velvet. The velvet is made out of 100% polyester and can be washed. For more knowledge and insight into the life and contributions made by S.N. Leek, I recommend the following video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lhh4jJ3VFGU.
